In honor of election day, I wrote this one. I got inspired by a wonderful article on the OED in the NYTimes. A real word in the OED: “Builder’s bum is reportedly Brit. and colloq., ‘with allusion to the perceived propensity of builders to expose inadvertently this part of the body.’” Lovely!
Here’s an interesting blog about cartoons from the 50’s, and a collection of on-line cartoonists.

I just tried to find something political, but instead, here’s just funny. But, also, go and vote!
Roz Chast, the bizarro cartoonist, is one of my main cartoon idols. Here’s a video interview and a written one.
I’ve got to figure out how to make a good cartoon about Reverend Ted Haggard, the president of the National Association of Evangelicals, who’s been dismissed for “sexually immoral conduct.” Maybe we can file Evangelical Christianity’s war on homosexuality as a failed product, too.
And now for some of the well-done flash animation I’ve seen lately:
For an amazing, albeit depressing flash video, check this one of the song creep. Wow!
Here, too, is a funny flash animation about the end of world. And here’s a peaceful home page of a designer. Go here to pop your own virtual bubble wrap.

I just wrote this one, pulling ideas from several cartoons. Sometimes that happens… I think I know what will work and then I can’t get enough ideas… so the ideas get squished into another cartoon.
A while ago I put some of my photography on cafepress. Today I decided to put some of the cartoons up there. Go check it out at http://www.cafepress.com/tootruefunnies. I also explored spreadshirt.com, but I think that their mug design was too unweildy to work with.
I’ve found another cool Flikr related tag browser.
In a book about the Far Side, Gary Larson talked about how he almost didn’t become a cartoonist, and then once he had, he often went so off the deep end, that he had to thank his editors for reeling him in. I have no editors!
A small, color version:

My more typical, larger, black and white version:

I sometimes experiment with color and size; above are two versions of the same cartoon. (This is clearly where my little person at the top right came from.) Which version works better?
Some new photography links: a neat blog on design/photography and a place for personalized photo gifts, including wallpaper(!).
